Frances Juanita Bookwalter, 93, Peru, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, July 27, 2014 at Howard Regional Health Campus, Kokomo with her loving children by her side.

Born on April 11, 1921 in Miami County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Paul William and Carrie Ruth LeVaugh Johnson. On September 24, 1955, she was married to Harold L. Bookwalter, and he preceded her in death on October 30, 1970.

Frances was a devoted and faithful member of Parkview United Methodist Church in Peru. She was a very loving, gentle, and sweet woman who was an inspiration and touched the lives of many people. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

An avid reader, Frances loved to load up on books from the Peru Public Library. She loved telling a good joke and enjoyed playing Euchre and would teach anyone willing to play how to learn. In her earlier years, she also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting.

She is survived by three children, Joni Spicer and husband Ronald, Wabash; Janet Bookwalter, Chili; and Robert Bookwalter, Peru; two stepsons, Roger Bookwalter and wife Nancy, Lafayette; and Dale Bookwalter, Minnesota; one grandson, Harold Richard Krieg, Arkansas; three great grandchildren, Buster Hines, Tyler Krieg, and Kayla Krieg; step grandchildren, Mike, Mark, Chris, Tammy, Shannon, Sherri, and Harold; one brother, Norman Johnson and wife Theresa of Washington; one sister, Judy Hoff and husband John, Peru; special friends, Jeannette Heltzel, Rochester; Cathy Price, Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin; and Kate Ash, Peru. In addition, she is survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins that were very dear to her.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Johnson and Paul William, Jr. Johnson; two sisters, Erma Graf Flora and Wilma Lee Stoeckert; one stepson, Evan Bookwalter; and one daughter-in-law, Kathy Bookwalter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at McClain Funeral Home with Rev. J. Robert Clark and Rev. Catherine Koziatek officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery, near Twelve Mile.

Visitation will be from noon until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
