Large Monument on South Boundary Wall with three Tablets.
Centre Tablet:
To the memory of GEORGE COMB, brewer in Livingston's Yards, born 7 February 1745, and died 29 September 1815. Possessed of an upright mind and amiable disposition, he was respected by the world and beloved by his family ; also of MARION NEWTON, his spouse, born 26 June 1757, and died 8 May 1819; and of JOHN COMBE, brewer there, born 16th July 1783, and died 17 April 1816 ; also ABRAM COMBE, who died 11 August 1827, while engaged in an attempt to ameliorate the condition of the labouring classes by a co-operative establishment at Orbiston in Lanarkshire. When dying he desired that if any epitaph should be written on him it might simply be that his conduct in life met with the approbation of his own mind at the hour of death, aged 42.
On Base. ANDREW COMBE, M.D., Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, born 27 October 1797, died 9 August 1847.
