Francis (Bill) Ericksen died July 28, 2007, in Mesa at the age of 91.
He was born in Brigham City, Utah, Sept. 24, 1915, to Francis Eric Ericksen and Virginia May Gilbert. He married Bessie (Bess) Rogers on April 3, 1944, in the Mesa Temple and together they raised three children.
His life was filled with service in his profession and in his community and church. He worked for many years on the executive committees of the Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Grand Canyon Council. He served for nine years as the first Bishop of the Snowflake 2nd Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and later served in the Snowflake Stake Presidency.
He and his wife, Bess, served three full-time missions for the church in Regina, Canada; Provo, Utah, and London, England. He served for many years, even to age 90, at the Regional Family History Center in Mesa. He served the towns of Northern Arizona for his entire professional career as a caring and talented dentist.
He loved music and played professionally in dance bands in his younger years. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII where he was assigned as a radar specialist and instructor.
He later became an avid ham radio operator. He will be missed for his wisdom and his example of Christian living. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was truly a great man.
He was predeceased by his wife, Bess, who died July 8, 1992, and his brother Frank.
He is survived by his sister, Frances Cox of Post Falls, Idaho; his three children, James Willis Ericksen (Susan), MaryAnn Allred (Alan) and Christine Smith (James); 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
