Edward "Eddie" L. Chavez died at his home in St. Johns, Aug. 26, 2005. He was 78.
He was born in St. Johns Oct. 23, 1926 and except for a brief time in the United States Army, spent his entire life there. He married Mary Ballejos and together they reared a son and three daughters. He was a heavy equipment operator employed with Apache County until his retirement. Eddie never met a stranger and called many friend. He was a wonderful husband, a loving and good father, a doting grandfather, great brother and friend. He was a phenomenal dancer. He also served as usher and as a Rotarian.
His survivors include his wife Mary Chavez, St. Johns; son Edward, also called "Eddie" (Pam) Chavez, St. Johns; daughters Ellen Williams, Lillian (Greg) Chavez, St. Johns and Frances (Frank) Duerst, Herndon, Virg.; sisters Rebecca Hunt and Chris Agiular; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
A Rosary was held for Eddie Tuesday, Aug. 30. A Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 10 a.m. Both services were at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. Johns. He was laid to rest at the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery.
Burnham-Jewkes Mortuary handled the arrangements.
