OFFICER JOHN PAUL JONES was shot by a boobie trapped shotgun in a local shoe store. He was on night patrol and noticed the door to the shop was partially ajar. When he opened the door to investigate he was struck by blast from a shotgun that had a string connecting the trigger to the door. The blast blew him back into the arms of his partner Arch Morgan. According to Morgan Jone's dying words were "Arch he's got me." Not knowing right then it was a booby trap Morgan fired several rounds into the store. Officer Jones was 35 years old and survived by his wife Mae and two sons. The funeral was held from his home on Baugh Street, June 15, 1921. Officer Jones had been on the police force for six months.
