Mary Margo Hamm, Age 49 of Somerset, Kentucky formerly of Vanceburg, Ky. Passed away Tuesday May 5, 2015 at the Southern Ohio Medical Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio of cancer and related complications.Margo was born February 21, 1966 to the late George Ray Hamm Sr. and Marcella Kibbey Hamm of Vanceburg, Ky. Margo was a 1984 graduate of Lewis County High School, earned her B.A. In Political Science and her Masters of Library and Information Sciences from the University of Kentucky. She was set to receive her Doctors of Education from Northern Kentucky University this year.Margo was Associate Dean of the Learning Commons at Somerset Community College since 2011 and for the seventeen years prior was a faculty member and librarian at Maysville Community College.She was Phi Theta Kappa Regional Coordinator for Kentucky since 2000, last month under her leadership Somerset Chapter was nationally recognized with the Distinguished Honors in Action Award and named a Top 100 Chapter for the 2008- 2009 academic year. Margo was the statewide faculty of the year for the entire community college system. She was in countless other organizations and received numerous awards.Surviving is her mother- Marcella Kibbey Hamm of Vanceburg, Ky.Her siblings – Renee' Wampler of Vanceburg, Robin (Rick) LaValley and G.R. Hamm both of Portsmouth, Ohio, a niece Starr (Brit) Adams of Navarri, Florida; nephews Trey (Lindsey) LaValley of Centerville, Ohio, Taylor LaValley of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Chris, Bret, and Derek Wampler of Vanceburg.Preceded in death by her father George Ray Hamm Sr.Friends may call from 5-8 pm Friday and from 10:00am until NOON Saturday at the Gaydos Funeral Home 159 2nd street Vanceburg, Ky. 41179.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:00 pm May 9, 2015 at the Vanceburg Christian Church where she was a life long member with a meal following at the church.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Vanceburg Christian Church or the Lewis County Imagination Library.

Jackson, MS - Margo Hamm, Kentucky Regional Coordinator and Associate Dean of Library & Learning Resources at Somerset Community College, died May 5 in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Margo Hamm had served as a Phi Theta Kappa advisor since 1995 and as Kentucky Regional Coordinator since 2000. At the time of her death, she was also serving as a 2015 Faculty Scholar and as Service Learning Representative on the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Program Council.
"Margo served as Kentucky Regional Coordinator for 15 years…that multi-faceted leadership role is a huge time commitment and requires leadership of students and advisors alike," said Jennifer Stanford, Phi Theta Kappa's Chief Student Engagement Officer. "The energy she gave never waned. In fact, she got even more involved by applying to serve on our Honors Program Council.
"It says a lot about her unwavering commitment to Phi Theta Kappa and her desire to serve others. She will be deeply missed."
Named an honorary member of the Alpha Omega Gamma Chapter at Ashland Community and Technical College in 2002, Hamm was also a certified faculty member for Phi Theta Kappa's Leadership Development Program.
"We are heartbroken to have lost a colleague and friend who made the world a better place," said Susan Edwards, Phi Theta Kappa's Dean of Academic Affairs and Honors Programs. "Margo added intellectual curiosity, empathy and a strong knowledge of Marvel legends to the Honors Program Council, and she was a wonderful Faculty Scholar.
"All of us who were privileged to work with her on the Council and at the Faculty Scholar Conference will miss her kindness to everyone and her passion for Phi Theta Kappa."
During her 20 years of service to Phi Theta Kappa, Hamm had been named a Giles Distinguished Advisor, Distinguished Advisor, Continued Excellence Advisor and a recipient of the Paragon Award for Advisors.

The Kentucky Region includes 22 chapters and the Kentucky Region Alumni Association. The region also received a Regional Milestone Award in 2008 and a Distinguished Region Award in 2009.
The Omicron Zeta Chapter at Somerset Community Technical College is perennially among the Society's top 100 chapters and a Five Star chapter. In 2015 the chapter also earned a Distinguished Honors in Action Project Award.
