J.J. or "Jack" was a lifelong farmer. He was born in Calhoun County, Georgia, lived for a short time in Oklahoma, but spent most of his life in north Alabama. At his death he was survived by his loving wife and partner, eight children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a baby daughter, Gladis. I have no knowledge of his biological parents; and who raised him is not known to me except what I've been told: his adoptive father was probably from Georgia, he took his adoptive father's name, and his adoptive mother's name was Mary Smith. He was lively and spry, quick to laugh, and as his wife, a true sweetheart in every sense.
