William Montgomery Bell was born April 10,1803 in Fairfield Dist., South Carolina. His parents were James and Jane [Montgomery] Bell. William was known, as "Brazier Billy Bell" to distinguish him from his 1st cousin William III.
"Brazier Billy" Bell married Celia Reese Martin, daughter of Captain Edward Martin and Mary Jane [Aiken] Martin, on January 15th, 1829 at the Ebenezer Associate Reformed Presbyterian (ARP) Church, also known as 'Old Brick Church' in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. Around 1838, they moved their family, along with their Montgomery, Bell, McKell and Nason relations to the area around Oktibbeha County, Mississippi and settled in Starkville; then called Boardtown.
"Brazier Billy" and Celia had seven children:
Mary Aiken [Bell] Wilder, Rebecca [Bell] Ware, Malissa Elizabeth Bell, Leonora [Bell] Reese, Henrietta Frances[Bell] Ellis, Margaret [Bell] Ridgeway and William M. Bell.
William Bell lived to be 74 years old, dying on February 24, 1877 in Starkville, Mississippi. He is buried by his wife, Celia, of 48 years in Associate Reform Presbyterian Cemetery.
