Son of William Drake Horne and Elizabeth Porter. He owned and operated the first commercial lumber company in Coeburn. He was a member of the Coeburn Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club, Shriner and a Mason. Served on the Coeburn Town Council. His 2 story house still stands on Front St. across from the First Baptist Church. Hugh is the great-great grandson of Jesse and Susan Milton Horne.
He died at home in Coeburn at 7 pm on November 30, 1947 from a heart related condition. He was buried December 2.
