Dennis Woodrow Rogers was the son of Ashby Rogers and Hazel Harbin Wright. He received his diploma from the former Central High School on Ryker's Ridge. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Knox. He was a radio operator and was awarded a good conduct medal. He worked on the assembly line for the old Swing Factory, at U.S. Shoe Corporation, Myers Manufacturing and as a final inspector for Conn Organ. He then began a sales career with Croxton-Lincoln Mercury and Arbuckles in Scottsburg. He retired as the sales manager for the former Cas Casteel Chevrolet dealership in Madison. After retirement, he worked as a used car salesman. He was very active in the church. He served as a member of the board, Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday School. He and his former wife sang many times in church and one of their favorite songs was "How Great Thou Art". He played the harmonica or as he called it "the juice harp". His favorite pastime was playing horseshoes and he would play any chance he got. He enjoyed walking on the river, picnics in the park, going to the sale barn and attending the local festivals. He was always trading cars and you never knew what he would be driving the next time you saw him. He enjoyed being a grandpa and made up nicknames for all his grandkids.
He is survived by three daughters, three sisters, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ann Bright and Scottie Rogers; one half-sister, Peggy Van Kampen; and two brothers, William Rogers and Kenneth Rogers.
He was buried at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Honor Guard of the American Legion, Jefferson Post #9, conducted military honors.
