Services for Richard "Dick" P. Hicks, 89, of Jasper, TX will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2010 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper with burial to follow at Little Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 until 8:00 p. m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the funeral home. "Dick" died Sunday, January 31, 2010 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on January 1, 1921 in Jasper, Texas to A. A. and Eula Hicks. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II in the Aleutian Islands where he earned the Purple Heart for injuries he sustained when his aircraft became lost in fog and crashes in the Pacific Ocean. Following the war, he married Ouida Mixon on September 26, 1946. He retired as a land manager and surveyor for Temple EasTex in 1985. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to spend time at his camp house at DAM-B and fishing the lakes of East Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his daughter, Karen Hicks Hayes. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Diana Hicks of Wescliffe, Colorado. He is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who will always cherish the life of their "Papaw."
