Ephraim M Black
Birth: Jan. 24, 1833
Bedford County
Tennessee, USA
Death: Oct. 5, 1917

Aztec Independent (Aztec, New Mexico), October 5, 1917
It is very seldom that a couple are permitted to enjoy the blessings of wedded life for a period of sixty-five years, but such was the experience of Grandpa and Grandma Black of Aztec. They were married in Lincoln County, Tennessee sixty-five years ago the 22nd of last month. To this union were born eleven children, six of whom are living. On Monday morning the Angel of Death came into this home and called Mr. Black from his sorrowing wife, who has spent all but fifteen years of her life with him. Ephraim Black was born at Bedford Co., Tennessee January 24, 1833 and was married to Martha J. Richardson on Sept. 22, 1852. He served under General Sterling Price in the Battle of Little Rock and Duvalls Bluff. They moved from Illinois to Colorado in 1894, thence to Aztec where they have live since.
"Six children mourn the death of the beloved father, Mrs. Miller of Carbondale, Ill., M.E. Black of Murfreesboro, Ill., Mrs. Edmonds of Colorado Springs, Mrs. Vancil of Littleton, Colo., Mrs. T.P. Maddox and W. Goff Black of Aztec. The three latter being with him during his last days.
"The funeral was held at the Methodist Church, Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. John Cox. The sympathy of the entire town goes out to the sorrowing relatives in their hour of bereavement.
"The pall bearers were Mssrs Bruington, Abrams, Townsend, Bass, J.M. Thomas and Clare Uptegrove. The honorary pall bearers were H.S. Wattles, Jas. Keel, Joe McDonald, R.S. Ridenour, E.R. Howard, and J.F. Wood.
