Crash Kills J. C. Soldier
A Jersey City army sergeant was killed in an auto accident yesterday when the car in which he was riding left the road and struck a tree near Niagara Falls, N. Y.
The body of Sergt. Ernest Enders, a member of the 762nd Airborne Warning Squadron, stationed at Fort Niagara, is expected to arrive here today. The 21 year-old serviceman, in his fourth year of active duty, was the son of Ernest and Leonia Enders of 112 Poplar Street.
The soldier's parents declared last night that they had not received any details of the accident. They declared the last time he was home was May 20. He had just completed his third year of enlistment last Mother's Day. Because of the new regulations after the outbreak of hostilities in Korea, he was serving another year. His family declared that they thought the soldier must have been on his way back to camp after a brief pass at the time of the accident. They were not aware of his owning a car.
Sergt. Enders was born in this city and attended School 27 and Dickinson High School. Prior to entering the service he was employed by the Hudson Reed and Harness Co., at 124 Leonard St. Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers, George, 12, and Richard, 8.
