Elaine was born on January 27th, 1929 and was named Ester Lucille Elaine which she legally changed later in life. Elaine was the youngest child of Joseph and Monica (Pietrusinski) Sweet. Elaine grew up in the north end of Flint, MI she attended Jefferson Elementary, Emerson Junior High and Graduated from the original Northern High School. Elaine was very active in sports especially in softball. It was at Northern she met the love of her life Millard Mattar who eventually became her husband. Elaine was full of life, she loved playing cards, games, anything that involved her family, which she loved most of all. Elaine was very out going and really did not meet a person she could not relate to. She was a wonderful cook of Lebanese and Polish foods. She also loved "real" mashed potatoes. It got to be a joke in the family we always had to have butter, not margarine, real mashed potates and half and half, not milk or dry creamer and her food had to be HOT. Elaine was also an excellent seamstress she operated Draperies by Elaine and worked closely with her late friend Joan Sunday and her late niece Louise Macksood. Elaine was also an accomplished knitter and loved to dance, she danced in a senior group well into her seventies. Elaine loved the annual vacations "up north" and the annual pilgrimage to Our lady of Consolation in Carey, OH. Elaine most of all loved her family she is survived by her children, Monica Lyn Mattar and husband George Bevins of Novato, CA; Rory M. Mattar and wife Bonnie Fournier Mattar; Michael F. and wife Kay Lemonds-Mattar of Flushing, MI; beloved grandchildren, Nicco Alifano, Sydney, Carlie, Dominic, Luke, Faith, Millard and Calvin Mattar. Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband Millard Mattar in 1986. Her parents, brothers Roy, Martin, Charles, Andrew, Thomas, Leonard and her sister Marie C. (Reno) Wolfe. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Helen Williams and husband John. Sister-in-law Dorothy Mattar and brother-in-law Vince Harrison. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and a host of great friends. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. The rite of Christian Burial was held at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Flushing, MI, Father Roy Horning officiating.
