David & I met on a blind date... the first for both of us! My aunt worked in the office at Wampler Foods and kept after me to "meet her boss". I was 22 at the time and politely told her no. She insisted. She continued to tell me how we would make the perfect couple! "Yeah, right", I thought. In the mean time she was receiving the same hesitation from David. Finally we both agreed and met, with my aunt, for a "date" at Pizza Hut. A year and a half later we were married!
The month we got married he received his first shipment of turkeys for a commercial breeder hen operation on his farm at Singers Glen. He was also working on his masters degree and assisting with the Charolais operation at his parent farm, May Meadows. Less than 4 months later he went up on the house roof to adjust the antenna (to watch the World Series) and fell, suffering a severe head injury. He spent the next year in hospitals and rehab centers. By Christmas of 1986, with the help of home nursing care, we were able to bring him home. He was unable walk or to speak but we had developed alternate communication methods. He passed away in May, due to respiratory failure, a complication of the head injury.

On June 22, 1985, he married Jetta Christine Bradburn, who survives.
Also surviving, in addition to his wife and parents, are two sisters, Melinda W. Smith of Boca Raton, Fla. and Suzanne Wampler (1964-2006) of Charlottesville, VA; a brother Charles W. Wampler II of Birmingham, Mich.; and a grandmother, Mae Wampler of Bridgewater, VA.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren by the Rev. David Brunk. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Bridgewater. The family will receive friends 7 - 8:30 today at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has ask the memorial contributions be made to the Virginia 4-H Foundation and designated to the W. David Wampler Memorial Fund, c/o Pete Martens, Rockingham County Extension Office, Main Street, Harrisonburg Va. 22801
