Edward Ray Smith CW4, US Army (ret.)
Son of Lowell and Vera Smith. He was raised and attended school in Beaver City, Neb. He joined the Army shortly after graduation and served in Korea. He married Darlene Arehart on June 1, 1952, in Holdrege, Neb. He spent the next 20 years at duty stations including Fort Riley, Kan.; Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; Fort Bliss, Texas; Heidelberg, Germany; Oahu, Hawaii; a tour in Vietnam, and Fort Sill, where he retired. Awards he received during his military career include Combat Infantry Badge 2nd Award for Korea and Vietnam, Silver Star for Korea, Bronze Star for Vietnam, Purple Heart for Korea, Accommodation Ribbon for Fort Sill, Korea and Vietnam, Good Conduct Medal enlisted, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, German Occupation Ribbon and Bars for 6-month combat tours. After retiring from the Army, he worked in sales at Howard Smith Ford and taught diesel and hydraulic mechanics on contract through Cameron University and VoTech for Fort Sill and Goodyear. He also spent two years working at the Cache County Barn and later became a full-time farmer in the Cache area. He retired in 2002 but was still doing small projects at the time of his death. He volunteered in an annual reunion of Korean War soldiers and hosted the 2009 gathering in Lawton.
Survivors include his wife; a son, four daughters and two sons-in-law, grandchildren and their spouses, and a brother and sister-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bobby Smith; three sisters and a brother.

Ed was a long time friend to my husbands family and will be dearly missed.
