Corp Brian Rory Buesing
Birth: Aug. 28, 1982
Hillsborough County
Florida, USA
Death: Mar. 23, 2003, Iraq

Marine Lance Corp Buesing was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Buesing was killed in one of the bloodiest and most unexpected battles in the first week of the Iraq war. His company was engaged in combat for more than six hours in the city of Nasiriyah. His company was trying to help secure the northern portion of a bridge in Ambush Alley when they came under attack. It was Buesing's job to load and fire as many mortars as possible. Brian attended Charlotte High School for a year where he made the varsity wrestling team and joined ROTC. He graduated from Cedar Key High School in 2000. He was very outgoing, the center of attention, and always made others laugh. He was handsome and gregarious and wanted everyone to have a good time. At one school function, he pulled all the wallflowers onto the dance floor. Friends and family called him Tom Cruise with blonde hair and blue eyes. He was full of energy, always had a smile on his face, and was just a nice guy. After graduation, he went to the nearest recruiting office to enlist. As a teen, Brian was tall and skinny, weighing less than 100 pounds but after joining the Marines, he gained about 70 pounds of muscle and his jaw line chiseled out. He was deployed to the Persian Gulf in February 2003, a month before his death, and had less than a year left in his service. When he finished, he planned to use his benefits to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. The handsome, charming and funny Brian was laughing when he died. One of his fellow soldiers got shot in the butt and everyone was laughing about it. Then there was a huge, ear-piercing explosion it went silent and Brian was dead. His squad had taken a direct mortar hit. (bio by: Brenda N)
