Sidney Allen Pear

Son of Mollie and Benjamin Pear. 2nd Lt. Sidney A. Pear, US Army Air Forces. Flew as the Navigator in a B-24 named "Ole Kickapoo" in Operation Tidal Wave. They successfully bombed their target, but the plane was severely damaged. When the pilot tried to land the plane, it crashed and burned. 2nd Lt. Pear survived the crash only to die of his wounds five days later in Campina Hospital in Campina, Romania. For his actions on 1 Aug 1943, he received the Distinguished Unit Citation, Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart.
