Alice Marie Turner, 73, of Central Avenue died at 9:57 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Turner lived her early life in Brown County but lived most of her life in Columbus. She was a former employee of Red Barn, Handi IGA, Dairyland, 7-11 and Eavey’s and also worked at LoBill’s Foods for nine years.
She was a member of Heaven Bound Express southern gospel group and attended Cornerstone Baptist Church in Garden City. She was known locally for raising domestic birds and was sometimes known as “Bird Lady.” She enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Born in Brown County Nov. 5, 1931, Mrs. Turner was the daughter of John and Iva Bisel. She married the Rev. William Orville Turner April 2, 1947, in Franklin.
Survivors include her husband; sons, James Dale (Lori) Turner of Columbus and Orville Dale (Brenda Lee) Turner; daughters, Linda Turner Bruce of Columbus, Chris (Don) Lucas of Elizabethtown and Brenda (Lewis Ike) Turner of Edinburgh; grandsons, Joshua (Jeff) Welsh of Columbus and Jeremy and Robert Turner, both of Atlanta, and twin grandsons whom she raised, Jason (Julie) and Joseph (Mandy) Welsh of Columbus; a granddaughter, Jeannie (Manuel) Cravens of Columbus; sisters, Rosemary Smith of Columbus and Ruth Boaz of Nashville; 18 great-grandchildren (Dustin, Nikki, Brandy, Allison, Lindsey, Dedre, and Ashley Turner, Carissa, Kailee, Kira, Alesia, Jessica, Cody, and Alex Welsh, C.J., shenna, and sheyenna Cravens); and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Brian Keith Welsh.
FUNERAL SERVICE: The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Revs. Bob Reeves and Mike Johnson officiating.
VISITATION: Calling will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday.
BURIAL: Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
