George Pavlyak, 89, of Fairmount, passed away Wednesday at VA Medical Center. Born in Auburn, he lived in the Syracuse area since 1953. George was an Army veteran of WWII. He was employed for over 30 years with Dr. John Kavanagh in DeWitt. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. George was a member of the Solvay VFW Post #2893 and the NYS Society of Opticians. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his yard. He was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Kosct and Helen Pirrone. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Mary Cerza; daughter, Michele Pavlyak of Irving, TX; son, George of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, George II and Alissa Pavlyak; sister, Mary Pantalos of Columbus, OH; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Contributions may be made in George's memory to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 30 Cross St., Auburn, NY 13021.
