Most notable for his burial. The first grave that was put at the edge of Mrs. Lee's rose garden and interred at the direction of Montgomery Meigs, Quartermaster of the Army, who was responsible for Civil War burials beginning at the Custis-Lee Mansion property of Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
