Maria Pires DePina, 95, of Acushnet died Thursday July 15, 2004 at the Blaire House after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Oliveira DePina.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Alberto and Mariana (doCanto) Pires, she had lived in New Bedford for most of her life before moving to Acushnet 12 years ago.

She attended St. Francis Xavier Church in Acushnet and Our Lady of the Assumption Church in New Bedford.

Mrs. DePina was formerly employed as a stitcher for Cliftex Corporation for many years until her retirement.

Survivors include a daughter, Irma Fonseca, and her husband Joao, of Acushnet; a son, Edward DePina, and his wife Elizabeth, of Sao Vincente, Cape Verde; four grandchildren, Elizete Perry, John Fonseca, Barbara Jean Correia, and Luis DePina; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was the grandmother of the late Gabriel Fonseca.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Saturday July 17, 2004 at 8:45 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet at 10 AM. Burial will be in Acushnet Cemetery.
