Newcastle, UT—Elaine Holt Jones, 93, peacefully passed from this life on July 11, 2012. She was born February 27, 1919, in St. George, to Heber Martin and Erma Elizabeth Woods Holt. She married Richard Forsyth Jones February 10, 1940, in the St. George LDS Temple.
Elaine attended elementary schools in Panaca, Nevada, and Enterprise. She graduated from Enterprise High School and Quish Beauty School in Salt Lake City.
She worked in Las Vegas as a hair stylist until her marriage and then she moved to the Jones Ranch in the rich farm land of the Escalante Valley.
Elaine deeply loved her husband, children, family and home. She kept busy caring for and teaching her children, being a homemaker, and supporting Richard in his farming and ranching livelihood and civic duties.
She made her home an inviting and pleasant gathering place for family and friends and prepared wonderful meals and always had good treats to eat.
Elaine learned to knit and made many beautiful articles of clothing. She enjoyed refinishing furniture and refinished many items of furniture for the family home. In her spare time Elaine enjoyed reading. She was industrious, hardworking, and eager to tie into any project that she thought was worthwhile.
As her grandchildren came along, she was affectionately called "Nana" – and thereafter became known as Nana by close family and friends.
Elaine was an active member of the LDS church and her favorite calling was teaching a Sunday School class of eight year-old children.
She is survived by her children: R. Mason (Doni C.) Jones of Newcastle, Steven H. (Jean B.) Jones of Newcastle, and Carolyn (Jerry) Atkin of St. George; one brother, George Stanford Holt of St. George; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard F. Jones; brother, Heber Wayne Holt; two sisters, Phyllis Nelson and McVoy Hafen.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Enterprise Stake Center, 80 S. Center St., Enterprise, UT. There will be a visitation Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, and also Tuesday, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the Enterprise Stake Center. Interment will take place in the Cedar City Cemetery.
