HARTLEY - Dorothy Nell Bailey, 86, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Hartley Baptist Church with Bobby Cates, pastor of First Baptist Church of Slidell, and Rusty Hancock, pastor of Lincoln Street Baptist Church of Dalhart, officiating. Burial will be in Hartley Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home of Dalhart.

Dorothy was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Hartley to Alfred and Lou Ella Fletcher. She was raised in Hartley and attended Hartley High School.

She married Charles Bailey on Jan. 14, 1941, in Guymon, Okla. In the early 50s, they left the Texas Panhandle but returned in the mid-'60s.

In 1968, at the age of 46, Dorothy went back to school and received her LVN from Amarillo College in 1970. She worked for St. Anthony's Hospital until she retired in 1981. She returned to the Dalhart area in 1995.

Dorothy was a member of the Lincoln Street Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crossword puzzles. Her love for her family ran deep; she traveled many miles to visit them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; three sisters; and a brother.

Survivors include four sons, Charles Bailey and wife Judy of Lubbock, Carl Bailey and wife Peggy of Dalhart, Roy Bailey and wife Carolyn of McLean and Dale Bailey and wife Tamra of Pampa; three daughters, Dorothy and husband Ron Couturier of Las Vegas, Nancy and husband Art Scott of New Braunfels and Ella Cates of Azle; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Open Arms Therapy (Equine Therapeutic Riding Center), 1404 Channing St., Dalhart, TX 79022; or a favorite charity.
