Burell's father, "A.C." was a medical doctor. Burell's paternal grandfather, Rev. Marcus Wrightman "M.W." Boyles (1842-1892) was a Methodist circuit preacher, as was Burrell's grandfather, Rev. Josiah Adolphus Boyles (1816-1984) and great-grandfather, Rev. John Boyles II (1768-1843).
Burrell and Sallie were married for 65 years and had three known children. They were Ruth Cobb Boyles (1921-2004), Burwell Clarence "Burell/Pete" Boyles, Jr. (1922-2003) and Dr. Paul Weldon Boyles (1925-2018 ).
Sallie died on May 4, 1985 in Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC at the age of 91. She is buried in Alamance Memorial Park in Alamance Co., NC.
