Birth: Feb. 18, 1835
Madison County
Missouri, USA
Death: Aug. 23, 1900
Nodaway County
Missouri, USA

The curtain separating us from the unknown world has again been drawn and we have lost one of the best known and familiar citizens of the community.

Grandma Jobe, as she was familiarly known was born April 15, 1814, in Sangammon Co. Illinois and died August 23, 1900 at the residence of Jonathan Wohlford, four miles northeast of Barnard in this County. Her maiden name was Mary Chilton. On Feb 18, 1835 , she was married to Ireby Stone Jobe near Springfield, Illinois. In 1856 they came to Andrew County, Missouri and in 1862 to Nodaway County.

In 1894 the old couple went to live with their daughter, Mrs. Jonathan Wohlford. On March 17, 1897, Mr. Jobe died, since which the grandma has made her home with another daughter, Mrs. David Wilson. Grandma often visited her children who lived in this community and about a week before her death she went to visit at Mrs. Wohlford's where she died and as if controlled by the hand of destingy the light of these two pioneers went out from the same hilltop. She leaves three sons and three daughters to mourn her loss - Wm. C, A. W. and Thos M. Jobe, Elizabeth Wohlford, Caroline Wilson and Melissa Baker. She also leaves 38 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

There is not a person in this community who will not miss grandma and scarcely one who has not felt the soothing touch of these dear old hands when tortured with pain or burning with fever. The night is not too dark or elements to turbed too much to keep her away from the beside of the afflicted when sent for. Grandma, we miss you, but we would not recall you from the sweet rest that a long, useful and upright life so richly deserves.
