John was born in Cambrio, Cornwall, England, son of Richard and Jane (Bargwenna) Wills. Growing up in England, he learned the mason's trade. In 1848, John immigrated to America coming directly to Council Hill Township, purchased a farm and lived there until retiring in 1896. John, his wife Mary (Rick) and family then moved to Galena. He died at his home in Galena on Jan. 20, 1899.
