From Czechoslovakia, immigrants John and Mary Sklar had 15 children after marriage in America -- 12 daughters and three sons. But only one son, John Arthur Sklar (1898-2002), lived to adulthood, married and had children -- two daughters. Thus, the SKLAR /SZKLYAR surname "daughtered out" among John and Mary's many descendants.

All but two of their 15 children have been accounted for. Both Michael (b.1890) and Rose (b.1895) died young in the greater Pittsburgh area where the family lived before relocating to Butler County, Pennsylvania, then to Detroit, Michigan in the early 1920s.
