SOME SOURCES: Historical Sketch of early settlers of Franklin County. Arendall Family was written by Elizabeth Parker Tabor, a native of Franklin County. It was published originally in the Commerce News and later, March 8, 1929, in The Lavonia Times: [abstract] "Mr. Editor: I was interested in your reference in a recent copy of your paper to James Little, one of the pioneers of Franklin County. My two great grandfathers, Nathan Arendall (or Arnold as the name was later called) ... In 1790 Nathan Arendall married Susannah Fannin, daughter of Lincoln Fannin, of Elbert County. ... Their children were Rebecca, Winifred, John, Elizabeth, William and Lochlin. William died as a child, Lochlin in young manhood. Elizabeth died but do not know at what age. Rebecca married a Gober and moved to North West Georgia, where she lived and died. One of her daughters came back to Franklin County and married a Cromer. She was a woman of very fine character. The Westbrooks, at Ila, are some of her decendants. ... Winnifred at the age of 18, married her neighbor, Ludy Haley of the same age. They raised a large family and she lived to be 94 and retained her mental faculties until the last. The writer is one of her decendants and she has many more scattered over the State. ... Nathan Arendall moved to Franklin County, but judge that it was much more than one hundred years ago. He was granted 304 acres of land by Gov. John Clark in 1819 - the grant is in condition and very legible - this land is where he settled, raised his family, lived and died. For many years this has been known as the Dave Hall place in a few miles of Bold Spring Church. ... Grandmother Arendall was a woman of not only great energy and industry, but born manager. With her large family of children her crippled soldier husband, her father and mother living nearby ... She lived for 23 years after her husband's death dying in April 1846. ... About one fourth of a mile from the dwelling on a hill is the family burial ground."
