MACON - L. Elizabeth Zierdt, a retired Navy Captain, daughter of the late Colonel William H. Zierdt and the late Ruth Kern Zierdt passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2006. Services will be held Tuesday at 6P.M. in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary. A private burial will be in the Andersonville National Cemetery. -Captain Zierdt, who received her commission in 1956, spent much of her naval career as a recruiting, training, personnel, and planning administrator. -In the Macon area, she served as Commander for the Navy Recruiting Area Three from 1981 to 1983. Her last assignment was as executive assistant to the Assistant Vice Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, D.C. -Captain Zeirdt was born in Philadelphia, Pa. She was a graduate of Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia, Naval Postgraduate School, and the Air War College. -Her military decorations include two Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service Medals, Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal. -Survivors include nephews, William H. Zierdt III of Fonde du Lac, Wisconsin, John G. Zierdt Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama, Michael Zierdt of Indianapolis, Indiana; nieces, Vicki Loomis and Candace Zierdt of Huntsville, Alabama
