Mary is the one female child age 7-16 listed on the 1826 census of Stephen F. Austin's colony. in Texas. Mary King Singleton and John D Taylor were married on November 19, 1838, according to the Harris County marriage license. Their first child, Jeanette Susan, was born July 28, 1841, and their second daughter, Isabell, was born September 9, 1842. Mary King died a month after the birth of this child, October 9, 1842 probably in Crosby, Harris Texas. Her husband John D Taylor may have died when the girls were very young. On the 1850 census both girls are living in the home of their uncle, Spyars Singleton. That same census shows Isabell to be 7 years old. This is in conflict with her tomb stone that shows her to have died in 1848 instead of 1842.
