John Lindsay was Born in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland,in 1842 to William Lindsay and Jane Kelch. JOHN LINDSAY, Chief of Fire Department, St. Louis, Mo., was appointed a member of the Fire Department June 1, 1867, and was connected with Hook and Ladder No. 1 for seven years; was appointed assistant chief in 1874, and first assistant in 1881, and chief in April 1885, on the retirement of Chief H. C. Sexton. John Lindsay was appointed St. Louis's Assistant Fire Chief on Feb 12, 1876. John Lindsay served as Head Fire Chief in May 1885 until he retired as Fire Chief May 15,1895. He was also the first President of the Firemens Pensions Fun. He Married Cathrine(Kate)M.(Collins)Lindsay, and had 10 Children and One Grandchild John Lindsay Lawler. His brothers and sisters were; William Lindsay, Richard Lindsay, James Robert Lindsay of Beaver, Utah. Mary Jane(LINDSAY)MASTERSON of St. Louis, and Annie LINDSAY.
