Jupiter - Christopher Gould, 52, of Bowdoin, ME was killed while racing his "jet funny car" that wrecked at Moroso Motorsports Park. He was wearing his safety restraint system and wore a body suit and helmet, he died at the scene. The drag chute failed to open and he lost control of his car overturning several times.
Christopher of Main Street, Bowdoin, passed away at the Moroso Motorsports Park in Jupiter, FL as a result of injuries sustained when his jet-powered Funny Car "Firepower" flipped after completing a 268-mph run.

He was born in Teaneck, NJ, the son of Robert C. and Eileen C. Walker Gould. He attended Meriden, CT, schools. From 1972 to 1976, he served as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Brunswick.

He was employed by Sikorsky Aircraft and the town of Westport, CT. In 1986, he moved to Brunswick and opened Brunswick Cycle and Sled, which he and his former wife, Elin M. Gould, operated for several years. After that, he opened Slots of Fun in Fort Andross and operated an import-export business from his home in Bowdoin.

For most of his life, he enjoyed the adventurous side of racing. He raced sport and vintage motorcycles for several years, winning the USCRA Super Vintage Road Racing Championship at Loudon, NH in 1990. After motorcycles, he went on to racing the jet Funny Car, entertaining race fans in Canada and the eastern United States.

He was extremely proud of his "best accomplishment in his life" his son, David. He was also an avid music lover and bass fisherman.

Surviving are his son, David C. Gould, USN; his partner, Irene Manson and her family; brothers, Robert Gould, Donald Gould and Thomas Gould; sister, Kate Becnel; and several nieces and nephews.


GOULD - Christopher Joseph, 52, of Bowdoin, died in Jupiter, FL, Nov. 25. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30a Saturday at St. Charles Borromeo Church, McKeen Street, Brunswick, with the Rev. Stephen Concannon officiating. Interment will follow at Growstown Cemetery, Brunswick. Arrangements are by Stetson Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
