Derrick J. McCracken, 31, of Battle Creek, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2009. He was born August 17, 1977, in Battle Creek, the son of Sarah Bowerman and Henderson M. Freeman. They survive him.

Derrick also leaves behind his daughter, Aryonna Rodriguez; sister, Marieca McCracken; and brother, Douglas McCracken. He also leaves his maternal grandmother, Joan McCracken and paternal grandparents, Henderson and Magnolia Freeman Sr., as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Derrick attended Kellogg Community College and worked at Dunkin' Donuts and other restaurants in the Battle Creek and Lansing area. Derrick loved sports especially baseball and football. He also enjoyed trivia. Most of all Derrick loved being with family and friends. He was especially close to his godson Latrell Gibson and his special friend Catrina Brown-Orr with whom he shared his home. Derrick was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Harold McCracken.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Royal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Royal Funeral Home.
