SABETHA --- Mary Reist, 98, formerly of Bern, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Cobblestone Court Care Center in Sabetha.

She was born Sept. 11, 1905, west of Bern, the daughter of John William Beyreis and Rosella Baker Beyreis. She was one of 12 children born to this union. She attended Union Country School west of Bern, where she completed the eighth grade.

She married John Reist in March of 1928. They farmed near the Oneida community as well as in the Powhattan community and near Holton. Following their retirement, they moved to Hiawatha. Mrs. Reist moved to Sabetha following John's death in January 1970.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, both of Sabetha.

Mrs. Reist also was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers and sisters, Willie, Annie, Magie, Andrew, Eddie, Johnnie, Katie, Rosie Janet, Agnes Bertha, Louis James and Herman Arthur.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Reist was cremated. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bern Cemetery at Bern.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church or Cobble Stone Court Senior Living, both in Sabetha, and sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, Kan., 66543.
