Sue Bonner Thornton, daughter of Mary Irvine Bonner and John Carder Thornton, Sr., was born born at Stewards Mill, Freestone Co., TX on 28 December 1898. She was named for her maternal grandmother. The family moved to Oklahoma Territory and Sue grew up there. Holidays were spent in Freestone County with her Uncle WeeWee, William Andrew Bonner. She received a life teaching certificate from Central State College in Edmond, OK upon graduation in 1918. In 1920 she received the B.A. degree from the University of Oklahama followed by a B.M degree in piano in 1921. Columbia Universisty, New York City awarded her the M.A. degree in 1932. In 1936 she received the B.A. degree in library science from the University of Oklahoma. After supervising music in the Oklahoma public schools for a number of years, she headed the music department at Northeastern State College, Talequah, OK 1925 -1932. She became librarian at Northeastern State College in 1932 and continued until she retired in 1964. Upon her retirement, Sue returned to Stewards Mill, Freestone Co., TX and lived in the home which she purchased for her parents in 1934. She remodeled the house and began the completion of "The Bonner Family History," a genealogy of the descendants of William and Dr. John Bonner. Published in 1972, it has become the "Bonner Bible" for the family. Sue never married. Sue Bonner Thornton was a Presbyterian and member of P.E.O.; Daughters of the American Revolution; Daughters of the American Colonies; Colonial Dames of the XVII Century; U.S. Daughters of 1812; Huguenots of South Carolina; National Society Magna Charta Dames; Colonial Order of the Crown; Descendants of the Most Noble Order of the Knights of the Garter; the Order of Washinton; Daughters of Colonial Wars; Plantagenet Society; Americans of Royal Descent and various other civic groups. She held several "Who's Who" listings. Sue died in Dallas, Dallas Co., TX on 10 February 1993.
