Chico Semi-Weekly Record, Friday, March 30, 1900: "William M. Epperson Called To His Rest. Old and Respected Citizen Succumbs to Ailments of Long Standing. From Wednesday's Daily. William Marshal Epperson, who for nearly thirty years had been a resident of Butte county, passed away last evening about 5 o'clock at the residence of his son on Normal avenue, between Third and Fourth streets. The death of Mr. Epperson was due to a complication of ailments resulting from kidney trouble. He had been in failing health for several months, and during the last four weeks was confined to his bed. Deceased was a native of Tennessee, aged 58 years, 5 months and 22 days.
In early life he moved from Tennessee, and in 1874 came to California where he first located at Chico. He was a carpenter by trade and followed his trade in Chico with considerable success until he began to fail in health. He then purchased a little farm near Forest Ranch where with his family he located and proceeded to prepare a new home. The change in climate and surroundings was beneficial to his health. It was thirty-five years ago that he was married to Miss Louise W. Hood, the lady who now survives him as his widow. Resultant of this union, there were two children, both of whom are living and are well known in this community, H.T. Epperson of Chico and Miss Fannie Epperson of Fort Jones, Siskiyou county.
Besides the widow and two children, he leaves four brothers and one sister: J.H. Epperson of Ogden, Utah; H.E. Epperson of Browning Mo.; E.A. Epperson of Durham, Cal.; P.M. Epperson of Middle Creek, Shasta county, Cal,; and Mrs. J.C. Guinn of Browning, Mo. Deceased is a gentleman of excellent standing in the community, being upright in his dealings and bearing good will toward his fellow men."
