The original Piney School was started by Duncan O'Bryant, a missionary to the Cherokees, in the 1830s in Goingsnake District. In the early 1900's, a new building was constructed, and it stayed open until it consoldiated with the Stilwell District in the 1960s. The building burned in the late 1980s or early 1990s. There is no indication a school stood on the site now, but many people have fond memories of years at Piney School.
