Kenneth Barton Hinkle died Dec. 5, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Redding. He was 69. Ken was born in Red Bluff on May 24, 1943 to Edgar and Charlotte Hinkle. Ken graduated from Antelope Elementary and Red Bluff High. He continued his education at Chico State and received his teaching credential in 1966. He taught biology at West High School in Bakersfield for four years before returning to Red Bluff where he taught eighth grade physical science for 30 years, starting at Bidwell and then moving to the new, Vista Middle School. Ken married his high school sweetheart, Dana Cofer, on January 27, 1963. They were blessed with three children who gave Ken five special grandchildren who enlightened his life as he enlightened theirs. Since Ken's retirement in 2001, he and Dana have enjoyed bike and kayak tours among their many travels. Ken is survived by his wife of 49 years; son Kevin Hinkle of Red Bluff; daughters Kristine Serna of Cottonwood and Diane Martin of the Capay District; grandsons Destry and Bryson Serna, Casey Martin, and Duke Hinkle; granddaughter Kelsey Serna; brother Phillip (Virginia) Hinkle of Felton; sisters Janet (Rick) Tiernan of Sunnyvale and Maxine Iiams of Sacramento; mother-in-law Jeri Cofer of Red Bluff; two nephews and six nieces. Kenneth was predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law Richard Iiams, son-in-law Dave Serna, and father-in-law Dan Cofer.
