Obituary - Lynn H. Gates Escalante, Utah Lynn H. Gates 84, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2007, at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden. He was born January 1, 1923 to Loyd and Dema Hall Gates. He was a life time resident of Escalante.

He married Mildred Liston on May 16, 1946 in the Saint George Temple.

Lynn was a hard worker and lived an incredible life. He served in the Army during WWII. He was a cattleman and farmer for over 20 years. He was a mechanic and businessman, owning and operating the Conoco and Phillips 66 Service Stations.

He was a talented musician and enjoyed playing the saxophone in town orchestras for holiday dances and on the Lion's Club bandwagon every July 24th. He was an avid sports fan, playing basketball and baseball throughout his life. Friends and family have wonderful memories of the many camping and fishing trips with him.

After retirement, he and Mildred spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona. He enjoyed square dancing, going to the Cub baseball games, playing on senior softball teams, and associating with friends.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in various positions including Bishop. He was a member and president of the Lion's Club where he worked on many community projects such as pioneering television into Escalante.

Lynn is survived by his wife of 61 years, his daughter Terry (James) Dowdle of Layton, five grandchildren, Emily (Bart) Boren, Judith (Trenton) Sweat, Ryan (Katherine) Dowdle, Jamie Dowdle, Nathan Dowdle; eight great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express deep appreciation to all the medical staff at McKay Dee Hospital and to the doctors and staff at Bonneville and Farmington Bay Dialysis Centers for the care and kindness given throughout the last three years.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Escalante LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Ward Chapel on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Escalante Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary Richfield, Salina and Manti.
