Married Lillie Florence Bell on Oct 13, 1889 in Abilene, Texas. Father to Roger M., Ernest, Philip T., Elmer, and Wallace Smith, and an infant who passed on Feb 3, 1897.

Mr. Smith died of a heart attack at 8 a.m. Friday [Apr 4, 1952] at the home of a son, Roger Smith, with whom he lived near Goldthwaite.
Mr. Smith was born July 22, 1869 at Columbus, Tex., the son of a Confederate Soldier. He came to Abilene with his parents in August, 1881. The family camped for a time east of town at what was then known as Coopers Grove. Abilene was In its infancy and there were few homes and a scattering of stores.
Mr. Smith was married in Abilene to the former Lillie F. Bell, who died about 1935. They moved to Guion in 1907 and farmed in that community for 16 years.
In 1923 the family moved to Aspermont, where Mr. Smith operated a wagon yard, feed store and grocery a year and a half. From there they returned to Abilene and for the rest of his active life he was in the grocery business. He owned a store at North Eighth and Pine Streets for several years, and from 1928 to 1936 operated a store at 725 Oak Street. Later he had a store on South 14th St. His home at this time was at 1109 South 14th St.
After retirement several years [before his death] he lived with his children.
Survivors [at the time of his death were] four sons, Elmer of 842 Chestnut St., Abilene; Ernest of Ovalo, Roger of Goldthwaite, and Wallace of San Antonio.
