When Ida's daughter was 21 she married Haynes Mahoney. Haynes was born and raised in Fernandina. Six months after the wedding Kate was in New York visiting relatives when she fell ill and died from Typhoid Fever. Her body was returned to Fernandina and buried in St. Peter's Cemetery. A large angel statue known as the Mahoney Angel marks her grave.
Ida and Capt. Bogart continued to live in Fernandina and later built a house on Centre Street. It was a large impressive victorian home. (it no longer stands) The Couple had a close relationship to a Bogart nephew and his wife Ruby who lived in Gainesville Florida. At a very young age this nephew died and is also buried here in this cemetery. His widow Ruby lived with Captain Bogart and Ida until the death of Captain Bogart a few years later. Captain Bogart is buried next to his daughter Kate Mahoney and nearby is his nephew John Bogart.
After Captain Bogarts death Ida allowed Ruby (John Bogart's widow) to remain in the large home on Centre street and Use the large home as a boarding house. This provided much needed income for the young widow.
Ida moved from Fernandina in June of 1940 and returned to her home in Nova Scotia. She was very close to nieces and nephews who had been born at about the same time as her dear daughter Kate. She lived 20 more years in Bridgeport Nova Scotia. The last year of her life she was living in a nursing home. Two months before Ida's death Ruby who had remained in Fernandina also died. This then was the last of the Bogart connections to Fernandina.
Ida died at 3.00 On Christmas Day 1960 in the nursing home in Canada. According to records (American Deaths Abroad) Ida was buried two days later in Riverside Cemetery in Bridgeport Nova Scotia. She was laid to rest with her parents and many siblings. There is no record that has been found that indicates that her body was ever moved to Fernandina. It can only be assumed that she had requested a memorial stone placed in the cemetery with her daughter and husband. This detail can be changed if ever information is found that indicates that her body was returned to Fernandina. This memorial is linked to that of her father and mother. And she herself is buried in Canada with her parents.
It's very interesting that during this time in Fernandina there were two Kate Bogarts and the families knew each other. Kate Bogart Mahoney is often confused with Kate Bogart Wass. Many believe that the younger Kate was named for the older. Again only speculation.
