STROKE IS FATAL TO BRYAN GROCER TUESDAY EVENING
Jess E. Hensarling, well known Bryan grocer, died almost instantly Tuesday evening at his farm on the Sandy Point road from an attack of heart disease. Funeral services were held this afternoon from the Free Will Baptist church, with Rev. E. C. Morris officiating. Interment was made in Bryan city cemetery.
Mr. Hensarling had been out to his farm, doing some work, and had started to walk toward his car, when he was seen to fall forward on his face. John Buchanan, who had gone to the farm with him, and who was about to drive around to meet Mr. Hensarling, saw him fall and ran to his assistance. He turned Mr. Hensarling over and put cold water on his face in an effort to revive him. But the stricken man gave one gasp and died.
Mr. Hensarling, who was in his 44th year, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Hensarling of Steep Hollow, and had spent his entire life in Brazos county. At the time of his death he was the owner of Self Service grocery and had been in the grocery business practically all his adult life.
Mr Hensarling was president of the Brazos County Singing Society and for many years had been an active member of this organization, and was one of those responsible for its activities from year to year. Mr. Hensarling also was a charter member of the Bryan Lions club, though not affiliated at the time of his death.
The deceased had been married twice. His first wife was Miss Myrtle Cole, daughter of Mrs. Alice Cole, and to this union one child, Miss Jessie Myrtle Hensarling of Bryan was born. His second wife was Miss Erma Cloud, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Cloud of Bryan. Two children were born to this union, both of whom survived their father. They are Olive Ruth and Jess E. Junior.
Other survivors are his father and mother and four sisters and two brothers. The sisters are Mrs. Amon Williams of Bryan; Mrs. W. E. Moody of Stephenviille, Mrs. J. A. Moody of Piedmont and Miss Bess Hensarling of Steep Hollow. The brothers are J. A. Hensarling of Stephenville and Evander of Harvey.
Active pall bearers were Griff, Glen and Robert Cloud, all of Bryan and all brothers of Mrs. Hensarling; Thelon Hensarling of Stephenville and Evander Hensarling of Harvey, brothers of the deceased, and Alex Moody of Piedmont, brother-in-law of the deceased.
