Mr. Anson A. Prentiss, an aged resident of this place, died at his home Monday morning and was buried Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Thomas Martin preached the sermon. The services were at the house. We did not learn further particulars.
Although Mr. A.A. Prentiss has been quite low for several days, none thought the end was so near. A little after seven o'clock last Monday morning he quietly dropped into that sleep that has no awakening. He was born Oct 14, 1817. Came to Hallock Oct. 1891 and settled on the palce where he died, Nov 2, 1899, at the age of 82 years and 22 days. Six of the children, Sara Nurse, of Des Moines, Ia., Lydia Wait of Forrest, Gilbert from Wisconsin, Viva, George and Guy at or near the home, were present at this death. The funeral services were held at the home on account of the poor health of Mrs. Prentiss. By request of the deceased the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thomas Martin of La Prairie. There was a large attendance from the surrounding country as Mr. Prentiss was widely and favorably known. Appropriate and beautiful singing was rendered by Misses Ollie Root and Julia Starling and Messrs. Linus and Norris Root. The pall bearers were the thre sons, George, Guy and Gilbert and A.M. Root, J.G. Bridgman and C.J. Betts.
