BANGS- Services for Ben C. Stephens, 76, of Bangs will be held at 2 pm today, Sunday, September 29, 1996, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Allen and the Rev. Jim Perry officiating.
Burial will be in Bangs Cemetery.
He died Friday, September 27, 1996, at his home after a sudden illness.
He was born December 10, 1919, in Coleman County, the son of the late John and Marcy Stephens. He married Murlene Bruton in Bangs in 1944. He served the US Army in World War II, in the 100th Infantry Division, and was awarded the Bronze Star, three Presidential citations, and the Infantry Combat Badge.
He was a retired owner/operator of Stephens Service Station in Bangs and a lifelong rancher. He was a member and longtime president of Brookesmith Water Supply System.
He was a member of The American Legion, the Bangs Cemetery and former president of the Bangs Booster Club. He was a lifelong resident of Bangs.
Survivors include his wife, Murlene Stephens of Bangs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Harold Spivey of Longview, Mary Ann and Billy Jack Rankin of Bangs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Becky Stephens of Lawrenceville, GA, and Mike and Leesa Stephens of Bangs; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. J.B. Stephens and Stacy Stephens, both of Bangs; a sister, Leora Middlekauf of San Angelo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Stephens; a brother, R. B. Stephens; and his parents.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
