The burial of Mr. Parrott in the woods has created through the years several different stories. I am going to record the local folk lore that I have heard the most. It is told that he was ailing so decided to go by wagon to a mineral springs where local folks went to get their water. He camped there for a while hoping that the water would help him get better.

On his way back home he stopped the wagon on a ridge, looked around and told his family that this was the spot he wished to be buried. The story also says that he chose this spot instead of the two area cemeteries because he wasn't fond of the people who owned them.

As stated above, this is just local lore. If anyone has any information on Mr. Parrott or his family I would love to be able to add the correct information. Until then his life and death will remain shrouded in a mystery that is never quite forgotten. This is the way of small rural communities.
