John Earl Gooding was a loyal son who stayed on the family farm and helped his widowed mother Laura Hendricks Gooding farm. He lost his hearing as a child due to a high fever and he never married. There he made furniture for his family members and handcarved farm momentoes like oxen pulling carts.
