He was born Sept. 17, 1915 in Cherokee to Martin and Belinda J. Mason Price. He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1932 and entered the National Guard on Dec. 12, 1938. He served in the 2nd Battalion 189th Field Artillery 45th Infantry Division of Oklahoma, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He received two bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, Occupation of Japan Medal and the American Theater Medal. He was discharged March 8, 1974, after serving 32 years.
On April 19, 1946, he married Bernice H. Southard in Kiowa, Kan. They lived in Cherokee where he was in charge of the Cherokee Armory. After retirement, he served as street superintendent for the City of Cherokee and was Cherokee fire chief for seven years. He also did small engine repair.
Price attended the First Baptist Church and was past post commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife, Bernice, of the home; one daughter, Janice Gail Pace of Tuttle; one sister, Ruby Custer of Cherokee, three grandchildren; three great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Karan Gilbert, a daughter, Virginia Carol and two sisters.
