When Mary M. Gandy Honeycutt died, there was a
beautiful tribute written to her in the minutes
of Salem Baptist Church:
"Mrs. Mary M. Honeycutt, the subject of this sketch, was born 1836. She united with the Baptist Church in 1853. Departed this life November 24, 1908. She leaves her aged husbnd, one son and grandchildren to mourn her death - yet all bound to the will of Him who doeth all things well.
Resolved, first, that by the death of this good women, the church has lost one of its faithful members. Even though feeble in her last years, she always attended worship every opportunity and lived daily trusting in her Maker and seeking to do His will.
Second, that she was kind and congenial to all with whom she was associated, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in distress. We will always hold in just regard the efficient manner in which she discharged her duties.
Third, we tender the family our deepest sympathy in this great bereavement; and that this resolution be spread on our church minutes.
Signed by Mrs. Fannie Simmons, Mrs. Lula Ford and Mrs. Helen McElroy"
Mary Gandy Honeycutt was for many years buried in an unmarked grave. A tombstone beside her husband Edward Henry Honeycutt was placed at
Kewanee Cemetery in September 2010.
