Chas. G. Swanson rites held Saturday, Nov. 2

"Funeral services were conducted in the Almelund Lutheran church on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. for Chas. G. Swanson, 88. Pastor Clarence Schaffner officiated at the 2 p.m. service. Mrs. Melvin Johnson was the organist, and Mrs. Raymond Gustafson, the soloist. Casketbearers were David Smith, Vern Johnson, Larry Bjork, Verdy Herberg and Al Purfeerst. Chas. G. Swanson was born in Vitlander, Smaland, Sweden, on May 27, 1880. He came to America with his mother when he was 11 years of age. His father died in Sweden. He worked as a carpenter most of his life in this community. Mr. Swanson was confirmed in Almelund Lutheran Church in 1895 and in December, 1904 was married to Eva Asp, who died in September of 1926. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Herberg (Pearl) of Taylors Falls, Mrs. Wilfred Randolph (Esther) of Luna Pier, Mich., Mrs. Lawrence Bjork (Lucille) of Almelund, Mrs. Lester Smith (Ruth) of North St. Paul. Thirteen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren also survive. He was remarried to Sina Pollock on November 1, 1936. She died January of this year. He is survived by one step-son Harold Feldman of Mpls. He was preceded in death by one son Edgar, who died in 1933, and one brother John of Mpls., as well as two sisters. He spent two years at Green Acres Nursing Home at North Branch, later one month at the St. Croix hospital, then at Good Samaritan Home in St. Croix Falls. He died October 28, 1968 in the St. Croix Falls hospital."
